January 24, 2012: Nothing to fear but fear itself, and nightmares part 1

Posted on Mon Apr 15th, 2019 @ 5:36am by Senior Aiden Edwin

Mission: Pre-Awakening
Location: Townsend Tower, Atlanta Georgia: Danger room 4
Timeline: two days after The Mutant Apocalypse of Shady Side

Aiden stepped into the control room of the danger room. He looked around to find the room empty. He shrugged. “Figured someone would be in here for this.” He had been woken up early for this program. At first he didn’t want to, but was told his ability to go out of the Tower would be hampered if he didn’t. So he went in with a bottled water and a couple energy bars.

~Why bother?~ Munir replied to him. ~Seems like what the higher ups want is to test some things. No fighting.~

“Like I’ll believe that. This is the one they have kept hidden from me since they put it in my list of things to do.” Aiden said as he went to the control panel.

~Aiden, since when have they ever told us all their plans?~

“True.” Aiden said as he logged into his files and selected the program for that day. As he looked up, the window went dark. Not that it had been programmed to, but the lights were out on the other side. “Munir? Why are the lights out?” Aiden asked as he looked into the danger room

~Surprise, I think. You have to step into the room to turn them on in order to hide the type of place this test takes place in. But it is not a fight.~

As Aiden stepped down the ramp and to the door, he asked. “Hey, need the armor?”

~No fighting.~ Munir replied. ~So no.~

Aiden stepped into the danger room and small lights on the floor lit up his feet. They lit up in front of him, showing him where to go. “Ok. Getting weird.” Aiden said aloud. He kept walking along the path until the lights spread out in front of him. Lights came on and he stood on a stage with a microphone in front of him.

“A stage? We doing a play?” Aiden asked.

~Asking OG.~ He was told, then Munir continued. ~Looks like a test of singing. How well you can alter your voice to sound like other people. From what OG is telling me, You are to sound like a female, in a female sung song. IF you can mimic the singer, do so. If not, just the singer’s sex.~

“Well, that’s weird.” Aiden said. “What is the music for today?”

~Unsure, it’s being hidden from me so you can't prepare early. But get ready~ his sliver said before the music for L'amour est un oiseau rebelle started to play. Munir spoke to him once more. ~Habanera. And female~

Aiden chuckled and began to sing. It wasn’t something he sang often, but he did like the song and knew it well. As it got to the backing vocals, people appeared behind him, constructs of the Danger room.

L'amour est un oiseau rebelle
Que nul ne peut apprivoiser,
Et c'est bien en vain qu'on l'appelle,
S'il lui convient de refuser.
Rien n'y fait, menace ou prière ;
Et c'est l'autre que je préfère ;

L'amour...

As he sang, Aiden threw himself into the role, although he still felt a bit odd singing a girls part.

L'amour est enfant de bohème,
Il n'a jamais, jamais connu de loi ;
Si tu ne m'aimes pas, je t'aime ;
Si je t'aime, prends garde à toi! (Prends garde à toi !)
Si tu ne m'aimes pas,
Si tu ne m'aimes pas, je t'aime ; (Prends garde à toi !)
Mais si je t'aime, si je t'aime ;

Mais si je t'aime, si je t'aime ;
Prends garde à toi! (Prends garde à toi !)

L'oiseau que tu croyais surprendre
Battit de l'aile et s'envola.
L'amour est loin, tu peux l'attendre ;

L'amour...

L'amour est enfant de bohème,
Il n'a jamais, jamais connu de loi ;
Si tu ne m'aimes pas, je t'aime ;

As he reached the end, he heard the sounds of clapping and looked to see an audience had been added. So he took a bow as the next song began to play. A smile formed on his lips as he immediately realized what it was. La donna è mobile. “Something I can really do.”
