Devin worried the inside of her bottom lip as she set the loaded tray into the oven and backed up once she got the door closed without getting her hands caught. Yeah, no burns today. She had learned the current recipe from the home economic teacher. Though instead of making the cinnamon rolls look like butterflies she ended up with more dragonflies. She didn't mind as long as they tasted right.
The past week had given her a lot to consider. Besides the fun she had at the carnival with Kenny, Matthew, and Mary Ellen, she had gotten pretty good at the cooking part of class, which made up for the disaster she made of the sewing machine the week before.
Hannah had also introduced her to crochet. She had already made a scarf, but hadn't gotten the courage to give it to the person she had made it for.
She had wanted to be a pilot when she was younger. Now she figured she might look into cooking, at least if she could keep the recipe turning out right. She kept an eye and her ears on the timer for the cinnamon rolls.
Devin still volunteered at the animal shelter on weekends. She mostly just fed the cats and dogs and walked around with them so they weren't just stuck in the cages being lonely..
She winced and leaned against the kitchen counter as the headache kicked in again. It had started up again, like before the new glasses, the same eye searing pain that ran up into her head making her feel like something was going to pop because it just hurt so much. Her eyes watered and the sound of the timer's ding sounded unusually loud to her pain heightened hearing. She shook as she got the tray out of the oven and set on the counter to cool.
She bumped the side of the oven door and hissed as it's heat left a mark on her arm. She got it closed and sank to the floor, tears streaming down her face as he head throbbed. She was going to have to cancel the picnic meeting with Kenny, Matthew, and Mary Ellen.
"Cinnamon roll picnic off, sorry will make it up next time, Devin." Was the text she sent to the three coolest folks she knew.
“Hope evthing ok will hook up later luvs” Kenny texted back.
Devin closed her eyes and winced as Arteritis and Diana came into the kitchen and crawled into her lap as she sat on the floor crying from the pain her head. The scent of cinnamon rolls filled the quiet condo as she sat holding her cats.
