TO THE RESCUE!!!! part 4
Location: Shady Side
Timeline: January 22nd, 2012
He had already stopped his Sonic thrust. So all that was left was to find his target. Ahead of him, on the left of the road was a small computer store, the techs had traced her phone to.
He dropped to the ground and opened up his senses, yet closed his eyes. A few early morning shoppers screeched in fear and ran off down the road. But he was focused for something anything from her.
And faintly he heard it. Her voice. The sound waves from her seemed to bounce out of the building. Then something happened. As he reopened his eyes, a wave of blue energy ripped outwards from the store, going in all directions.
As it passed through the computer store and the surrounding stores, lights and computers blew. Transformers blew. Car batteries smoked and popped and the vehicles slowed to a stop. He couldn't help but flinch as a car battery near him popped under a car hood.
Aiden took a step forward, then he saw his HUD flicker and fade. He brought up his hand as the armor disappeared from his body. “Fuck me running. Not again.” He groaned to himself. “no fucking bombs this time.”
It was his nightmare all over again. Him with no armor, against something life threatening. He wanted to run away. But the girl needed him and he wasn't about to let her fall into the grasp of local law enforcement.
Aiden took a breath to steady his nerves. Then he started towards the store.
OG’s eyes snapped open suddenly, and she glanced at one of the many holographic screens floating around her in the control room. Of course she knew it was the case, but some human behaviors had rubbed off on her over the years, and she visually verified what she had seen, felt.
“Ouroboros’ nano just went offline,” one of the techs reported, yet another verification of what the digital overseer of Townsend Tower already knew.
“Damn it,” OG muttered, then immediately contacted Syn and Rosa. “They’re not going to like this at all. Try to get satellite telemetry from his last known location.”
“On it, ma’am,” the tech responded, and everyone’s fingers started moving.
A three way call opened up between the top women that ran the Tower, digital and flesh, and OG reported, “We’ve lost tracking on Ouroboros. His last known location was Shady Side, Maryland. Satellite telemetry puts him on the ground, and the data seems to show some kind of massive electrical pulse that’s fried out the entirety of the power grid in that area. I’ve been unable to re-establish communications at this time. There are a few indicators that this is an awakening.”
Syn arched an eyebrow over one draconic eye and was already getting to her feet, “Send me the data.” After taking a brief moment to look it over, the diminutive administrator nodded, then swore under her breath. “It could be. OG, notify Esper, Tamar, and Seamus. Tell them wheels up in five. I’ll see if Lauren is willing to join us, she knows the town better than we do, and I’ll have Dyami meet us there. I’m sorry, Rosa, but I need you to stay here and keep an eye on the Tower.”
“I understand. I may not like it, but I understand.” Rosa replied into the coms. To her side, Seamus was getting up from the table in their quarters, where they had been enjoying a nice quiet breakfast with Susan and Melody. Part of their attempt to get to know the little baby, who happened to be her first grandchild. Officially killing their peaceful morning. “Just bring my son home.”
In their room, Seamus tapped his daughter’s shoulder. “come for the ride. You can help with possible triage, if needed.”
“I've got her. You go and I'll keep my granddaughter with me, until your cousins get here.”
“Besides, diapers cost money. Time in the field pays more.” Seamus told her. “You'll be safe. I promise.”
Susan looked to her mother, then to her father. “Sure I guess.” She said before standing up and kissing her daughter's forehead.
